The Russian Navy Refusing To Admit One Of Its Boats Was Sunk By A WALRUS Is My Favorite Story Of The Day

Source - A Russian navy vessel was sunk by a walrus after it got too close to the female animal’s cub during an Arctic expedition.

The Northern Fleet, alongside the Russian Geographical Society, were sailing off Franz Josef Land on the Altai tug vessel but using smaller dinghies to go ashore.

The sailors were forced to flee one of the ships when a female walrus attacked the inflatable vessel.

But while the Geographical Society reported that the vessel had been sunk, the Kremlin’s Defence Ministry omitted the detail in its September 18 report.

Before I get into the story, we have actual footage of the angry Walrus responsible for the sinking…

Here’s the release from the Russian military.

“При высадке на мысе Геллера группе исследователей пришлось спасаться от самки моржа, которая оберегая своих детёнышей, напала на экспедиционную шлюпку. Серьёзных неприятностей удалось избежать, благодаря четким и слаженным действиям военнослужащих Северного флота, сумевших отвести лодку от животных, не нанеся им вреда”

As you can see, they clearly didn’t mention the part about the boat sinking, which means they were either A) wildly embarrassed or B) Russian. Whatever the case, having your battle ready inflatable sunk by a battle ready blob of fat isn’t the best look. It is, however, absolutely hilarious and also something I don’t blame them for trying to hide one bit. Especially considering how much they pride themselves on being alpha in terms of their military. Here’s the translation of the last paragraph for those of you who can’t read Russian. It reads like something written by one of Dr. Evil’s henchmen.

“During the landing at Cape Geller, a group of researchers had to flee from a female walrus, which, protecting its cubs, attacked an expedition boat. Serious troubles were avoided thanks to the clear and well-coordinated actions of the Northern Fleet servicemen, who were able to take the boat away from the animals without harming them.”

The “clear and well-coordinated actions of the Northern Fleet?” Doubt it, guy. It’s almost like the Russian military is compensating for having a small dick. If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable. Say it attacked the boat, but it didn’t sink it and you’re good to go. I don’t know why but this story cracked me up. The whole thing is very McGoo. Whatever. I got into a Walrus attack YouTube hole and it turns out they’re absolute beasts. RIP to the Northern Fleet.
