Antonio Brown is Going Back to School

Antonio Brown school

SourceAntonio Brown, one day after tweeting that he “will not be playing in the NFL anymore,” has announced on social media that he has re-enrolled at Central Michigan University.

Brown on Monday posted on his Instagram account a picture of a list of four classes with the message: “Back to school @cmuathletics.”

The post shows a list of four classes that are offered online, including: Introduction to Management, Technical Writing, Death and Dying (a religion course) and Racism and Equality (a sociology course).

MLive reported Monday that Brown enrolled in the four classes on Sept. 16, four days before he was released by the New England Patriots.

Good for Antonio Brown. Aside from the four receptions and the touchdown he had last week at Miami, and that one locker room press conference he held where he talked the talk, this is the only positive thing he’s done in 2019. I’m pro education. Whether you use your degree or you’re simply trying to learn for the sake of learning, I’m all for it. Every time you gain knowledge, you become a better person.  Be that in Management, Technical Writing, Religion or Sociology. So I applaud his decision.

One word of caution though. When you’ve been living in the bubble of pro football, where everyone is beholden to what you can do on the field, where the people around you owe their livelihoods to enabling you and will make allowances for all your anti-social behavior, a college campus in 2019 might not be the perfect fit for you. See, in the world of academics, there’s not quite the same level of tolerance you might be used to. People will look the other way at your misdeeds if you can run routes and catch passes. Which, by rule, Antonio Brown will not be doing.

Freedom of expression will only get you so far when you can’t play football. And I’m fairly certain colleges today have pretty strict codes of conduct when it comes to sexual expression as well. So while you might get away with masturbating on your girlfriend’s back against her wishes or pulling your dong out in front of a woman who’s simply trying to paint a portrait of you because you can gain 1,400 yards for the Steelers, places of higher education frown upon such behaviors.

That said, best of luck in your new endeavors, Mr. Big Chest. It might not be as good as the $30 million you stood to make in Oakland or the $9 million you set fire to in New England, but it’s still a good thing.

I guess my only question is, how did you plan on taking four classes at Central Michigan if you were working full time for the Patriots in New England? Maybe you can do your Management thesis on that one, because I’d like to read it.
