Very Few Moments In Your Life Are More Pivotal Than When You Realize For The First Time That Brussel Sprouts Actually Kick Ass

Imagine going back in time and telling a 10-year-old version of yourself that one day Brussels sprouts would end up being an item that you actively seek out. That brussel sprouts will one day be something that when you’re scanning through the menu at a bar or restaurant, you will stop and think to yourself, “wow that actually sounds great right about now, I think I’ll go with those”. 10-year-old you would probably end up kicking yourself in the dick. He’d tell you that you’re crazy and that he’ll never grow up to be like you.

But then one day it all changes. I don’t exactly know when and I don’t exactly know why. But one day you are gifted with one of the greatest surprises that life has to offer. You realize that even though these things may still be a little on the stinky side, they are a goddamn treat. All of a sudden one day you catch yourself daydreaming about some honey garlic roasted brussel sprouts and it’s the only thing you can think about for the rest of the day. Sprinkle in some crushed walnuts in there and now you’re having yourself a party. Roasted, pan fried, doesn’t really matter. You just realize one day that these things that you’ve been terrified of your entire life are actually so good that you don’t even care about being the asshole at the bar who orders them during the game and stinks up the whole section.

The day you come to this realization–at least I believe–is that day that you officially enter adulthood. Unfortunately that means that it’s also the day that your conversations start to revolve a little less around “who would you rather bang” and more “which cable provider would you rather have”, but at least you get to eat well while having those conversations.

P.S. – I kept switching up between brussel sprouts and brussels sprouts because I don’t know which way it’s actually supposed to be spelled and I didn’t want to look uncultured.
