Luis Severino Has Returned And Is Not Fucking Around

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v New York Yankees

Yankees 8 Angels 0

Obviously Tuesday night’s 99th victory will be overshadowed by the news of losing Dellin Betances to a torn achilles, but this team has to move on. Next Man Up. As this fucked up season has gone, the Yankees had to make a trade. A soul for a soul. By losing Dellin Betances they got back Luis Severino. He toed the rubber last night and my god he was fantastic.

4 innings. 2 hits. 2 walks. 0 runs. 4 strikeouts. 47 strikes on 67 pitches. Beautiful. Just what the doctor ordered. Things got off to a weird start after Brian Goodwin worked a 12 pitch walk to start the game. Asshole was up there spoiling pitch after pitch. It looked like for a second we were headed towards a 30 pitch inning, eating away half of Sevy’s workload. Instead, after a bloop single, Severino induced two quick ground balls to get out of the first frame in under 20 pitches with no damage done. No blood.

After that it was smooth sailing. He locked in, got comfortable, and most importantly got stronger.

There was even a moment when Boone thought to pull his ace early with pitch speeds going down a tick. Severino responded with gas.

I just hope we don’t hear that he over-extended himself there and caused an injury. That’s what I fear at this point after the Dellin debacle. Who fucking knows man.

Regardless, Severino looked every fantastic. He topped out at 99 mph. His slider had some pretty good movement. It’s not at vintage God-mode Sevy movement yet, but he’ll get there. Location was there for the most part, or at least better than expected. From the eye test, everything looked smooth. The ball exploded out of his hand. He should be making two more starts before the season ends. Hopefully they can get his pitch count up to 90-95 by October and he’s ready to cook as a starter. I thought originally he was going to follow an opener in the postseason, but he seems dead set on being a legit starter. I’m all for it. Let’s ride this motherfucker to the promise land.

With the Rays loss last night to LA, the Yankees magic number to clinch their first AL East division title in seven years is down to 1. It’s wild how long it’s been, but the champagne is on ice and the big fella CC Sabathia will be taking the ball tonight. How cool is that? Let’s get that W and pop the bubbly.

P.S. Stanton is either returning tonight or tomorrow and if we have to do this whole soul for a soul thing I’m going to have a heart attack.
