What Is Chris Paul Trying To Tell Us Through His Latest Instagram Story?

New York Liberty v Las Vegas Aces

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that NBA players and social media go together like peanut butter and jelly. Who doesn’t love a good emoji tweet during the trade deadline or free agency? Sure 99.9% of the time it’s all bullshit, but every so often something actually happens as a result of those emojis which is why the rest of us on the internet have to take each case seriously. This is important because we need to talk about Chris Paul’s latest Instagram story

Now you, someone with logic and reason may see this image and think Paul could mean literally anything with that emoji. The possibilities are endless. Well here’s the thing. You know what today is? September 16th. That’s an important date because it’s now been over 60 days since the CP3 to OKC trade. That’s key because before today, Paul could not be aggregated in a trade involving another Thunder player, it had to be one for one. Suddenly things open up a little bit in terms of what potential packages might be out there and could happen based on the rules. Remember when MIA was interested in Russell Westbrook? Who knows, maybe there could be another big time move executed before the beginning of training camp starts in a few weeks now that it’s been the proper amount of time.

This may be far fetched, mostly because OKC would be smart to wait until at least December 15th when guys who just signed deals this summer can be traded, but if there’s a deal out there that meets all of OKC’s requirements they certainly have the green light to make the deal. It all aligns a little too perfect for this to be absolutely nothing on Paul’s Instagram story if you ask me. Not to add fuel to this fire, but guess who is vacationing together right now?

Add that to the banana boat buddies workout session from last month

I mean if your spidey senses aren’t tingling I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know how on Earth the Lakers could pull off CP3’s $38M contract which means OKC would most likely have to find a third team to make this all happen so take that with a giant grain of salt. There’s also a possibility this is in response to what the Rockets owner had to say about Paul

“I don’t think it had a lot to do (with it),” Fertitta told Sam Amick of The Athletic. “I just think that our basketball ops people thought that this was a better option for us to get to the next level, and I think Chris is going to do an unbelievable job for Oklahoma. I think Chris (who has $124 million owed combined over the next three seasons) has a lot of basketball left in him, and I think people are going to see that just because he had some injuries the last couple of years that he’s still one of the top guys in his position in the game. We just feel like the way that we want to play that (Westbrook) is just a little bit better fit.”

But that’s way less juicy. Give me trade rumors over beef with owners 10 times outta 10.
