Dallas Week Should Never Be Week 2
I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about this. It should be a crime that Dallas week is week 2 this year. Week 2 is just too early for such a big rivalry game. Not even on in prime time either. Just a Sunday at 1pm game. Ridiculous. This is Redskins/Cowboys. Biggest rivalry in the NFL. It should be on Thanksgiving and it should be late in the season in December. The two games that shape the entire season. The two most important games on the schedule every year. And one of them should not be week 2. You need to be able to feel the hatred in the air when it comes to playing Dallas. You need time for the season to build and build and build so when they play, it’s full of angst and hatred and blood. That’s when you get the Santana Moss game. That’s when you get the Colt McCoy game. The Skins came into the MNF game in Dallas at 2-5 on the season, starting Colt McCoy for the first time. I think the Cowboys were 10 point favorites, minimum. And it didn’t matter. Colt spanked them up and down the field and it was one of the most memorable games we’ve had.
I’m not saying Sunday’s game can’t be the same way. But it just feels weird being this early in the season. I like to let the pot boil first and then you throw in the two teams and let them fight it out. I like when the field is frozen, not 90 degrees. I like when one team is trying to play spoiler for the other. I still want the Skins to destroy the Cowboys all the same, but let’s at least wait until the the leaves have changed colors before scheduling it in the future. Amen.
