The Astros Marked The Landing Spot Of Yordan Alvarez's Six Thousand Foot Home Run Last Night With An Orange Seat

The Astros are taking a page out of the Red Sox’s book here and marking Yordan Alvarez’s monster home run last night with an orange seat way up in right field.

As the legend goes, Ted Williams once hit a 502-foot homer up in the right field bleachers at Fenway Park in June of 1946 that went through a fan’s straw hat and the whole deal. The Red Sox marked the longest home run in Fenway Park history with a red seat. It’s a myth; this coming from a Red Sox guy. Nobody has even come close to it since. Quite suspiciously, there’s no video of Ted’s homer. To further debunk the red seat, David Ortiz once took a metal bat out to batting practice one day to see if he could hit it. He couldn’t.

If Papi couldn’t do it with a metal bat, then there’s no way Teddy Ballgame did it with a wooden bat, even if he was out there in a Category 5 hurricane. Manny Ramirez once hit a home run into the light tower that would’ve landed on the Mass Pike if not for the light tower being in the way. Officially, it was measured at 501 feet so not to pass Ted’s famous homer.

Statcast called Alvarez’s homer 416 feet, which is just simply untrue. That was 600 feet minimum. I said it in the blog last night and I’ll say it again here — spare me the juiced balls chirps. Even with the juiced balls, nobody else is hitting tanks up there. It’s impressive regardless of how juiced the balls are. Yordan Alvarez is an actual monster and he’s only 22 years old. Pray for the league.
