A Giants Fan Was Arrested For Allegedly Threatening To Shoot Up Gillette Stadium Because The Patriots Signed Antonio Brown

Providence Journal- An East Providence man is accused of threatening Gillette Stadium in reaction to the New England Patriots signing star wide receiver Antonio Brown, as well as a felony domestic assault. Tobias Gray, 44, appeared in court Monday to face the charges, wearing a New York Giants jersey with a blue hoodie. He shook his head with dismay as he saw reporters taking photographs and video of him in court.

Gray’s lawyer, Stefanie DiMaio Larivee, said the charges stem from a Facebook post that was seen as threatening toward Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, where the Patriots opened their season on Sunday night. She said that Gray did not mean the post to be serious and that he deleted it on his own initiative. “Just like everybody else, he was reacting as a fan” to the Brown news, DiMaio Larivee said. “His opinion. Nothing that was said was ever meant to be in any seriousness.”

Hand up Patriots fans. As the Giants blogger of this site, I would officially like to apologize for this guy’s actions on behalf of all of us on this side of the fan ledger. This isn’t really a bold statement, but nobody should be threatening to shoot somewhere up, especially in the year 2019 of our Lord where they seem to happen every fucking week. It’s one of those unwritten rules of life like you can’t say “Bomb” on an airplane or in a crowded place. Actually there is probably some sort of law in both real ink and internet ink that is against someone posting “I will go shoot up random people at Foxboro”.

I know we all live online these days. But it is still crazy to me that someone can go from “Man, I wish that team I don’t like just signed a really good player” to “I’m going to write a social media post about killing a bunch of people”, even if it’s a joke. But that’s the weird internet world we live in today. It doesn’t matter if you live in the middle of If you think Twitter is a crazy place for sports arguments, you should see what Facebook is like. Not that I go on it. You couldn’t pay me to scroll through the shitty political takes and personal life rants to get to the drivel that exists on Sports Facebook. But I’ve seen enough screenshots of the chaos that is Sports Facebook to know not to go there like it’s the elephant’s graveyard in The Lion King. I figure if you stay away from the shadowy place, all will be good. Call me simple, but I’m more than fine in my little blue bird echo chamber that occasionally gives me hilarious moments like angry sports fans challenging each other to meet in Temecula or the CJ McCollum vs. Jessica saga.

Truth be told, I actually like the Patriots because I’ve been a Bill Belichick fan for as long as I’ve watched football and can’t imagine why a Giants fan would hate them considering they have given us two of the best moments a fanbase can dream of, regardless of if he lives in the heart of a fanbase that is very, ummmm, loud and proud these days. It wouldn’t shock me if KFC or some a deranged Jets fan that lived in the belly of the beast did this because it feels like a divisional rival kind of move. But a Giants fan doing this just made me sad, embarrassed, and more than a little bit confused.

So I am extending the olive branch to you Patriots fans for Tobias’ actions. I wish you and your team nothing but the best this season save for Week 6 and it has nothing to do with the ungodly amounts of money they have made for my company that has allowed me to blog smut for a living or that I have Tom Brady, Sony Michel, Stephen Gostkowski, and the Pats defense on my big fantasy team. Please accept my well wishes along with this hype video from Jeff D. Lowe’s Twitter account as a peace offering.

Now lets go out there and dominate the NFL, at least through Week 16!
