Tim Thomas Spoke Publicly For The First Time In Years After Getting Selected To The USA Hockey HOF

B’s former netminder Tim Thomas was named to the USA Hockey Hall of Fame on Wednesday and for the first time since he left the game in 2014, he spoke publicly. Thomas is so mysterious nowadays, living a private life way away from hockey, here are the notable quotes from his conference call.

“Everybody probably knows nowadays I don’t have all that much to say, at least publicly. In this case though, I’m honored to be receiving this recognition.”

He’s moved on from the game of hockey.

“I don’t personally have any relationship with the game. My focus and mind is on learning about other stuff. I learned so much about hockey and that area. I feel like I’ve learned as much as I needed to learn about it.”

Thomas also debunked the rumor that he was going to be a fan banner captain in the playoffs, citing issues with his own health.

“With the state of my nervous system since I retired… I wouldn’t be able to hardly handle the energy of the crowd in Boston. It isn’t as simple as it may seem. Having said that.. you never know what the future may hold. I’m just taking life as it goes.”

His departure in Boston was an interesting one. After the 2012 season he took a year off, saying on a Facebook post that he needed to reconnect with the “three F’s”… Friends, Family, and Faith. In a YouTube video years later he admitted that he suffered a concussion during that last season that had “affected him greatly”.

“I live in a totally different world than the hockey world that I lived in before now. I live a long ways from Boston. It’s not that fun for me to travel anymore. It isn’t anything to do with the Boston Bruins or the Boston fans, especially. My goodness… They loved the crap out of me when I was there to the point where it’s hard to handle.”

Such an interesting man, but well deserved election to the USA Hockey HOF. He will forever hold a piece of my heart from that Cup in 2011.  Thank you Timmy.
