I'm Afraid My Favorite Band Of All Time, blink 182, No Longer Exists Anymore

I have long, longggg blogged about blink 182. I’ve long defended blink 182. I can’t do it anymore. What I just watched was not blink 182. That’s not the same band that shaped my childhood. That’s not the band that put out Enema of the State and wore out my CD player in the back seat of the minivan. That’s not the band that made the self-titled album and blew my fucking socks off. That was…that was garbage.

When Tom left and Skiba came in I was hesitant. I never was a fan of Alkaline Trio but I wanted to give this new version of blink a fair shot. They released “California” and I thought it was average. Gave it a “C”. Some bangers, but didn’t really have anything I loved. I persisted though. This is blink. They will overcome.

But now? I don’t know anymore. I get that bands grow up and evolve and change their sound, but new blink is giving me an apple and telling me it’s still an orange. It just doesn’t work. And the thing is, I like the song. It’s a classic, catchy blink song. But the video? Are you kidding me? If you dare, watch the whole thing.

I enjoyed both of these comments under the video:

It’s a lot to take in. And I will always, always love the band for what they were. I still listen to everything before California daily. Not a day goes by blink doesn’t buzz my ears. But this new stuff? It’s upsetting.

I guess this is growing up.
