One Of The Most Iconic Basketball Shoes Of The 2000s Is Making A Comeback

Oh hell yes. You’ll have to excuse me for a minute because my ass has just been teleported back to the year 2000 and I am drunk off nostalgia. I’ll never forget BEGGING my parents for these shoes. I think I told them they could use it as my birthday and Hanukkah present (a common tactic in the Greenie household) so I could rock the block/gray/blue Shox. They were my favorite basketball shoe ever at the time and you know what probably still to this day the more I think about it. I was convinced the little shocks at the bottom actually made me jump higher, I feel like I went from being able to touch the net to being able to slap the backboard as soon as I laced them up. Remember these things? They were incredible

So to learn that they are making a comeback for Vince Carter’s last season is fantastic news. I don’t think I could hit purchase fast enough once I saw they were available. What this also did though was make me think of all the hilarious shoes we had as kids growing up. Some were so terrible you almost can’t even believe they were real, while some are all time classics. If you’re around my age and you grew up in the 90s-early 2000s and played basketball, I guarantee you either rocked one of these or knew someone who did.

We had the Shaqnosis from Reebok

Just a hilariously outrageous shoe. Things probably weighed like 50 pounds yet perfectly described the era.

Then there was Kobe’s signature shoe with Adidas

This was some space suit wearing type shit. There were earlier versions that were way worse looking, but this is the one I remember most.

We certainly can’t leave out AI

I feel like even in MA you saw these everywhere, didn’t matter that he played for the Sixers. In the early 2000s Iverson was the coolest dude in the league and this was the shoe that really exploded for him.

But, aside from the Shox, my all time favorite growing up had to be the Reebok Pumps

Who could forget when Dee Brown won the dunk contest by pumping up his shoes. A big time iconic moment in the Greenie household

Seeing as how we’re already on the throwback train when it comes to courts and jerseys next season, I also wouldn’t hate if we followed this trend of the Shox and brought back some vintage signature shoes as well. Sure the technology might be a billion times better nowadays, but to me the 90s-2000s will forever be the sweet spot of terrible yet awesome basketball shoes so it’s only right they make a comeback as well.
