David Ortiz Is Black, Right?

So this is a big debate going on in the Barstool HQ think tank right now: is David Ortiz black? I’m not even entirely sure how it started. Something about Jay Zs trip to Cuba and that, like most conversations we have, devolved very rapidly. So to make it easier we’ll just turn it into “Is Papi black?”

I say 100% yes. No ifs, ands or buts about it. You look at that picture and it is undoubtedly a black man. Sales Guy says he’s Latino. I don’t see how the two are mutually exclusive. Yes, David Ortiz is Dominican. Yes, David Ortiz is black. It’s a simply eye test. If you look at a man and think “that guy is black” then he’s black. It doesn’t matter where he was born. You don’t have to be African American to be black. You just need to have black skin. Black or white has absolutely nothing to do with nationality. There are white Latin Americans too. Lionel Messi is from Argentina but that dude is white.

I understand that this conversation is literally pissing on MLK’s speech. But Based on the color of his skin, not the content of his character: David Ortiz is a black man.
