NYCFC vs FC Cincy Recap

Sean Johnson saved a penalty (good), Maxi missed another penalty (bad), and Hérber/Castellanos had 2 goals a piece in a 4-1 comeback route of FC Cincinnati.

The start of the game was verrrry rough. They let Cincy get more chances in the opening ’30 than they did for the rest of the game. Newly acquired defender Eric Miller got beat bad on a through ball to Lamah, who he chased down in the box and gave up an iffy penalty to while trying to clear the ball.

Did Miller follow through and get caught up with the back of his heel after the ball was away? Sure, but that was also a very well sold fall by Lamah. Johnson saved the terribly hit PK, only for Cincy to come roaring back a few minutes later with a grounded cross that split both Chanot and Ring for an easy tap in.

Rough! It got better from there as the offense really picked up speed en route to the 4 goals they scored without an answer. Hérber scored once off an assist from from Castellanos via a KILLER cross from Maxi, and again on a nice pull-back ripper as the game was ending. Castellanos scored his first off an assist from Maxi, cutting past a defender and bending a shot into the far lower 90. He also scored a header off a scrummed ball off a corner, bringing his goal total up to 9 on the year.

This win brought them into 3rd place in the east, edging out DC United who they are 3 games behind. They face an important game vs Columbus on Wednesday, which has the potential to either put them ahead of or tied with Atlanta for second place going into the derby. James Sands broke his collarbone, which will sideline him for 6-weeks most likely. That’ a pretty big loss, so the sooner Callens is back the better.
