Daryl Morey Has A Message For The Rest Of The Western Conference

Listen, what else is Morey supposed to say? Of course he’s going to say his team is first and you know what? I love the confidence. That’s the big swinging dick Daryl Morey that Rockets fans know and love. Right now his team has the 4th best odds to win the 2020 NBA title, but are the third best team in the West. On the surface you get why, everyone has been slobbing the nobs of both the Lakers and the Clippers and that’s not exactly a surprise. They both had pretty a great offseason and loaded up with top end talent. Well more so the Clippers than the Lakers but it does sort of feel like a team like the Jazz is getting more buzz than the Rockets. It’s not as if they didn’t just add an All NBA/MVP caliber player to their roster, they didn’t really lose anyone else, and this is a team that did win 53 games after a horrific first few months of the season. Why shouldn’t Daryl Morey feel confident heading into the season? The Lakers may have the best duo pairing in the league, but they are certainly filled with question marks on the rest of that roster. The Clippers are loaded there’s no denying that, but we’ve seen teams that are loaded on paper that have to make the leap from scrappy underdog to title favorite not quite meet those expectations.

The big question is obviously how James Harden and Russell Westbrook will fit and how someone so terrible at three point shooting will work in an offense that last time I checked heavily relied on three point shooting. How are they going to handle that? Well Morey made a great point

That’s true. We on the internet did say similar things when CP3 joined HOU and it ended up working out pretty well. Maybe that’s why Morey is so confident. He’s pretty well known for not giving a shit about anything else other than landing stars. He subscribes to the theory that having as many stars on your roster is better than not having said stars, and it’s hard to argue with his logic.

Is Morey crazy for being so confident in his group? Crazy like a fox. Plus if I’m a player I would love this irrational confidence. Everyone knows success in the NBA starts at the top and if Daryl Morey isn’t scared of any of these other dynamic duo’s in the West then the Rockets players shouldn’t be either.
