UM Student Kathy Zhu Stripped Of Her "Miss Michigan" Crown ONE DAY After Winning It For Tweets About Hijabs, Hitler, And The KKK
THE DAILY MAIL – A conservative Michigan woman claims she was dismissed from the Miss World America pageant because her tweets about black-on-black gun violence and refusing to try on a hijab were deemed ‘offensive, insensitive and inappropriate.’
Political commentator Kathy Zhu, 20, revealed Thursday that she had received an email from Miss World American pageant organizers informing her that she had been dumped from the contest, in which she had been crowned Miss Michigan, due to her social media content.
This happens so often that I’m getting a little woke to these “Miss” contests – “Miss” Insert-State, “Miss Universe,” “Miss America” – all of those – the only time you hear about them really is when there’s a controversy exactly like this. It hits every blog and media outlet and everybody is talking about your pageant for a few days, then it’s rinse-and-repeat a month later with the next one. I’m convinced that they are crowning winners solely to get dragged on social media and get the brand’s name out there. There’s no other explanation other than complete incompetence, and while “Miss Michigan” probably won’t be confused with a MENSA think-tank, I would imagine they at least do a 30 second Google search on their contestants.
I mean the girl’s Twitter handle is “Political Kathy.”
You see a shouting-face emoji and any variation of “independent thinker” in a Twitter bio, I’ll find you a tweet one side can call “controversial” in 10 seconds flat.

Zhu tweeted that ‘Miss World America’s State/National/Chief Director accused me of being racist, Islamaphobic, and insensitive. They stripped me of my Miss Michigan title due to my refusal to try on a hijab in 2018, my tweet about black on black gun violence, and “insensitive” statistical tweets.’
The first tweet that Zhu believes led to her being dropped from the pageant was from 2018, when she was a student at University of Central Florida. On the campus’ World Hijab Day, she said that she opted not to try on a hijab when the offer was made.
The second tweet, Zhu said, was a response to another Twitter user, in which Zhu wrote ‘Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community before blaming others.’
But I would say this collection that the internet put together is more the problem:
I mean factually speaking Hitler was very smart and a good public speaker. I think you run into trouble defending the Ku Klux Klan, mocking Islam and gender identity, and throwing in a “your people” for good measure.
She’s hitting all the networks to defend herself – just like the “Miss” board planned on.

And she will have a job at Fox probably by the time I proofread and click Publish on this. So it will work out for everyone involved, and the cycle will start all over again in a couple weeks or months, whenever the next bikini contest is.
