The Crease Dive's PLL All Star Game Preview Featuring Ryan Drenner And Kyle Hartzell

The first All Star Weekend in the PLL history is here. I’ll be honest–I think lacrosse fans are a little spoiled right now because pretty much every weekend so far has been an All Star Weekend. Granted, there are only 6 teams in the league so when there are that few teams, obviously all the teams are going to be loaded. It’s not like a professional league with 30+ teams in it where you’re going to have a few guys on each roster who are marginal at best. But considering the PLL has been moving from city-to-city every week with a traveling band of the best lacrosse players in the world, I’m not entirely sure how to differentiate the first 6 weeks of the season from what we’re about to see in LA on Sunday. Again, I just think that lacrosse fans have been getting spoiled this summer.

With that being said, the game on Sunday and the Skills Competition are going to be an absolute highlight factory. And to get us ready for that highlight factory, we’ve got two of the best on today’s episode.

First up we have Ryan Drenner who is scientifically proven to be the most clutch player in the history of the PLL. So far this season, his Whipsnakes are 5-1. In those 5 wins, Drenner has scored 2 overtime game winners and has been credited with 4 game winners in total. No other player throughout the history of the PLL has more game winners to their name than Drenner.

After that, we’ve got Kyle Hartzell joining us. I don’t know if this is a fact or not but I feel like he has to be up there as one of the winningest players in lacrosse history. The man has a ring from pretty much every level he’s ever played at. He’s won a Junior College National Championship with Essex. He won an NCAA DIII National Championship with Salisbury. He won an MLL Championship with the New York Lizards. And then he won a gold medal at the World Lacrosse Championships with Team USA last summer. I’m sure there are a few more rings there that I’m missing but yeah, he’s a freak who just wins wherever he goes.

Quick sidenote here but we recorded this week’s episode before these couple new rules were announced for the All Star Game on Sunday. In case you haven’t noticed at all over the last 9 or 10 months or so, the PLL is constantly trying to be innovative and see where the game can go. So for a couple of quarters during the All Star Game, they’re going to fuck around and implement some new rules. I know that all of the “lax purists” out there are going to be super butt hurt about this but let me just remind you of a couple things.

1) It’s just an All Star Game. There’s no need to get upset over the faceoff being taken out of the game for 2 quarters of a game that quite literally means nothing. And no, the faceoff isn’t going anywhere. Trevor Baptiste is a faceoff specialist and he’s one of the All Star Game captains. I really don’t think the PLL would like to permanently take a position out of the game where one of the best players currently plays.

2) We’re all going to die one day. If we’re lucky enough, the sun will engulf planet Earth and we can all go up in flames. So realistically, does any of this matter? Not in the slightest. Especially not when we’re all burning to a crisp.

So just keep all of that in mind before you start crying into your diapers online during the All Star Game on Sunday night. It’s not worth looking like a gigantic adult baby over.

Now go out there and have yourselves a weekend, folks. I love you all. Even the haters.
