Yonder Alonso DFA'd, PRAISE THE LORD!!!

About goddamn time.  If you’re a White Sox fan, this is probably at least a month too late.  But the Sox *probably* played this correctly by doing whatever they could to trade him to a team that’s looking for a left handed platoon 1b.  Obviously that never happened.  And I say obviously because….

…. he put up that stat line.  It’s eerily reminiscent of Adam Laroche’s stat line back in 2015.  Just disgusting all the way around.

But let’s not forget this was always only going to be a 1 year place holder.  They were never, ever letting his 550 plate appearance player option vest.  His sole purpose was to lure Machado and that didn’t happen.  If he put up some decent enough 20 home run, .775 OPS slash line that would have been a bonus, but this was always going to be his one year on the team.  I get the move at the time, it didn’t work out and now he’s gone.  I never truly developed some huge hatred for him as a player because I knew his sole purpose and it’s not like the White Sox were wed to him for an extended amount of time.

I’d imagine Palka gets called up soon too.  Working my #sources on that one now.  But this opens up a LOT more ABs for Zack Collins at the very least.

The dead weight is starting to fall off this team, and it will continue to do so over the course of the year.  Little by little we’re getting closer to sustained success.  There’s going to be movement in the minors soon because of moves like this as well as the LatAm J2 date approaching, so more and more the team is going to be filtering players like this out, and filtering players like Collins in.  Fun times!

I cannot wait until 2020.
