YouTuber Buys Entire Michigan Town, Renames It From 'Hell' To 'Gay Hell' Then Tells Residents They're Only Allowed To Fly Pride Flags

Source - A YouTuber has bought an entire Michigan town and renamed it from Hell to Gay Hell in a prank retaliation at Donald Trump.

Elijah Daniel purchased the town, believed to have around 70 inhabitants, and immediately declared that only Pride flags could fly above it.  Describing his new property he said it had a ‘Hell Community Library’, a bridge with locks of love and a wedding chapel ‘to get gay married in Hell’.

The stunt was a response to the Trump administration which has refused to allow American embassies abroad to fly the LGBT symbol during Pride month.

Daniel, who has more than half a million YouTube followers, later added: ‘I named it gay hell because those are the words to describe my personality.’

It was not clear how much he paid for the town in Livingston County, but Hell has previously been on the market for up to $1.3million. For a time, the town’s unofficial mayor John Colone – who was seen negotiating the sale with Daniel – also listed the asking price as a sinister-sounding $999,666.

‘Until the heterosexual threat has been removed we cannot allow them to enter’, he said, mimicking Trump’s language.

I was trying to remember where I had seen the name Elijah Daniel before and it turns out he got into a Twitter war with Barstool over Pete Davidson’s butthole eyes last August. Here’s the interaction if you’re interested.

I guess he was trying to come to Ariana Grande’s defense? I don’t know. It’s water under the bridge so who cares? That’s not the point of this blog. The point of this blog is to address the fact that the artist formerly known as ‘lil Phag’ bought AN ENTIRE TOWN, renamed it, and is telling residents they’re only allowed to fly Pride Flags. And he did it all for the low, low price of $1.3 million. Politics aside you have to respect the move. He hit the nail on the head with the name too. ‘Gay Hell’ is exactly how I’d describe a town of seventy an hour northwest of Ann Arbor. I can’t imagine any person, gay or straight, who would want to live in that desolate, isolated shit hole. No offense to the Hellians, but I’d rather march in the inaugural Iraqi Pride Parade than set foot in their town. Again, no offense.

At least his heart is in the right place though. He’s also gotten a ton of press, which I’m sure was the goal to begin with…

Besides, the whole thing was just a joke. It’s all about engaging his followers and getting people to visit Michigan.

Daniel told NBC News in a phone interview on Monday that his flag rule is intended as a joke and there will not be a ban on other flags.

The comedian and musician, who has more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers, said the acquisition was intended to enhance his political portfolio by engaging his followers.

“I have a young audience who is 16 to 24 who would not be involved in politics if it wasn’t in a funny or meme way,” Daniel said. “I’m just trying to have fun and get my audience politically active.”

He also hopes it inspires people to visit Michigan.

He’s basically an ambassador to the state. Except in his part of the state only gay people are allowed and you have to fly a Pride Flag. Good for him. We’re living in confusing times, at least he knows what he stands for.
