Are The Bears Handling The Kicker Situation Correctly?

So it’s been pretty much all gumdrops and rainbows this Bears offseason. I talked about how if two players no-showed a panel while we were bad it would’ve been a huge story, but now that we’re good it’s a non-issue. Just alot of good things cooking at Halas Hall aside from…the kickers.

Now I think I’m actually going to have a different take than most people because I think most people are dying on the hill of “JUST GO GET ROBBIE GOULD ALREADY!”

My take is that I think they should stop doing this 42 yarder shenanigan. I understand people might not care and say that these dudes need to toughen up because it’s football, but the kicker position is unlike any other. It’s a head game and to have them without a clear head in mini camp because of something that the 3 of them didn’t do seems a little off. It’d kinda be like if the Red Sox turned all attention to the new 1st basemen after they got rid of Buckner and just hit him grounders behind the bag in front of the whole team/media after practice just to turn the screws up on him.

Like I said…I understand many people aren’t going to agree with me and that’s fine I get your point that they’re professionals and are going to be put under immense pressure throughout their tenure, but I just don’t think that Cody Parkey needs to be the story anymore because he’s not on the team.

Whoever our next kicker is is going to be under enough scrutiny once he lines up and kicks his first one against Green Bay on Thursday night. Why put him in a situation to already be looked down upon by fans, media and all alike in June?

This is good.

Trying to rectify problems before they become problems is a good thing rather than just saying you’re unhappy and complaining about it.
