There Is More Smoke Surrounding Kawhi Leonard's Free Agency Plans

2019 NBA Finals - Practice and Media Availability

(Source) – Few things in NBA free agency rumor circles spark more speculation than real estate. It usually goes something like: Player X has bought a house in City Y so he’s obviously signing with Team Z.

The NBA’s upcoming free agency class is a massive one, so there’s already been plenty of speculation fueled by property records.

Kyrie Irving has reportedly purchased a home back in the New York City area, while Kevin Durant is rumored to have relocated his company’s headquarters to the Big Apple.

Now, we have a Kawhi Leonard update.

A Toronto sports radio host said this week that Leonard has reportedly purchased property in Toronto.

“We have heard he’s purchased a property in Toronto,” Michael Landsberg said on Toronto 1050. “We’ve heard this now from two different sources, indicating there’s something there.”

Most of the speculation about Kawhi has been California focused. He reportedly bought a home in the San Diego area last year and most predictions have him signing with the Clippers.

I’m sure there are some pretty bummed Raptors fans today after they watched their team blow a prime opportunity to really put the Warriors in a tough spot in Game 2. Well cheer up buttercup because FINALLY there’s a Kawhi free agency rumor in your favor! There were rumblings a few days ago that maybe Kawhi would be open to returning to Toronto on a short term deal

which at the time seemed a little weird to me for a guy who is about to make the max and also has a bit of an injury history to consider. But listen, if we as the internet wanted to put stock into him buying a house in California, well you have to put some stock into these reports that he’s already purchased property in Toronto. Remember, Kawhi said a few days ago as well that his perception of the city had really changed

so I’m just trying to follow the timeline here. On the 29th he has that quote, on the 31st there are rumblings of a potential short term deal. On June 3rd we now have reports that he’s purchased property. Something or nothing? I’m leaning towards a small something. Now sure, you could be negative (or a Clippers fan) and say that he bought that property just to visit the city in the future since he likes it now, but is still headed West as soon as the season ends. Maybe! But maybe not. You hear about people buying real estate in popular cities like NYC, LA, Miami etc, when have we ever heard of Toronto? That’s not a knock on the city, I’m sure it’s fun as hell and things look insane during this Finals run, but it’s not exactly a destination we hear about when it comes to big time stars snatching up property.

All I’m saying is you can look at some of the other potential star free agents and how they are acting and feel like maybe they are on their way out. So far nothing Kawhi has shown tells us he’s leaving, in fact all these rumors and crumbs make me think he’s probably staying and it has nothing to do with the result of these Finals.

Because let’s be honest, when has a report about purchasing real estate ever not worked out?
