Facebook Files Patent To Build Robots That Roll Around Scanning Faces To "Help Users Make Friends"
(dailymail)–Facebook is considering building ‘emotionally sensitive’ robots that can explore the world, identify objects and people and enable users to make friends remotely.
On-board sensors would allow the robots to spot people to engage with, judge their emotional state and listen to what they are saying, a patent filing revealed.
At the same time, the robot could display images, video and speak with people — potentially letting users meet people and make new friends remotely.
However, it is not known whether Facebook will follow through on the patent filing and make the rough robot designs a reality.
Facebook has officially gone too far. You want to have an app that lets people brag about their life and look all skinny and hot while I sit on my couch in sweatpants cruising the internet to make me feel bad about my life…fine. You want to steal my data and send it to companies so they can push products in my face that I’ll buy to make myself feel better because instagram made me feel like a pathetic loser…whatever, I don’t care. The only thing I really truly want is to be left alone in my misery. That’s the line facebook isn’t allowed to cross. So when they file patents for emotional support robots that can scan your face and somehow help you make friends…that’s too far. There’s too many real people in public that you need to ignore, I don’t want some annoying ass robot reading my body language to see if I’m sad and try to talk to me. Get the fuck outta here.
Beyond that, it just sounds like the creepiest shit in the world
Each machine, about the height of an adult, would be equipped with cameras and other sensors.
These would let them scan and interpret the faces and body language of people they encounter to assess their ‘likely emotional state’.
Speakers and microphones would listen out for ‘sounds emitted’, allowing the robots to talk to people or pick out the sound of someone calling to them.
If integrated into Facebook’s social media platform, members could potentially used such robots as proxies for real-world exploration and interactions with people.
The robot could display images to the people it encounters using the monitor screen placed on its top.
Zuckerberg is morphing into a real life Bond villain or Black Mirror episode. These things aren’t to help people. They’re just to spy on people every single moment of every single day. Doesn’t matter where you go, now Zuck can follow you, listen to you, see you, and drive you crazy because if you don’t have a happy smiling face then you’re going to be approached by a robot.
