What Technology Do We Currently Have That Most People Think Doesn't Exist?

I’m not a reddit guy at all really.  I don’t even really know how it works.  The only time I really ever used it with any regularity was when I was working a desk job and Barstool was blocked at work.  The Reddit page kept me up to speed on most things Barstool.  Probably shouldn’t admit that as I am an internet blogger but whatever.

But last night I was doing some shit for Red Line Radio and typed “red” into the URL bar and hit enter before it autofilled and it brought me to Reddit.  Stumbled upon a thread that I got lost in for a solid 30 mins.

There are a LOT of scary inventions that currently exist, some funny, some mind blowing, some literally blowing, etc.  Here’s a few that stuck out to me:

1.  Dick sucking machines

Want to bust a nut and are sick of rotating between your left hand and right hand?  Is Mary Queen getting drilled out by the same dude over and over again just not doing it for ya anymore?  Well all ya gotta do is move to China and pop a quarter in this bad girl and go to town.  Wouldn’t be surprised if our guy Donnie has given this machine a throw before.

2. “Deepfakes”

 (Full Wiki article)

Deepfake (a portmanteau of “deep learning” and “fake”[1]) is a technique for human image synthesis based on artificial intelligence. It is used to combine and superimpose existing images and videos onto source images or videos using a machine learning technique called a “generative adversarial network” (GAN).[2] The phrase “deepfake” was coined in 2017.

Because of these capabilities, deepfakes have been used to create fake celebrity pornographic videos or revenge porn.[3] Deepfakes can also be used to create fake news and malicious hoaxes.

I’m probably missing something here, but basically technology has advanced to the point where Arya Stark masks are an actual thing, but we don’t really publicly know that to be true quite yet.  Scary shit.  Apparently one can use “deepfakes” to trick cameras into thinking they’re someone they’re not.  As in security cameras that scan one’s identity.  As in terrorists can use this shit if they’re technologically savvy enough.  There’s also voice cloning software from Adobe:

Basically all ya gotta do is get a 20 minute sample of literally anyone’s voice and they can duplicate it with 100% accuracy.  Fake news is bad enough as it is on both sides of the aisle, just wait until the media gets their meaty paws on this!  It won’t be used against anyone, ever now that I think about it.

Fuck that.  No thank you.

Jetpacks:

So apparently the Bell Rocket Jetpack in the 1965 James Bond movie was completely real.  I’m sure it wasn’t actually Sean Connery zipping around in it, but it existed nonetheless.  The only issue with them is that they burn 5 gallons of fuel for a 21 second flight.  That’s not exactly fuel efficient.  Still, it’s crazy knowing that a 55+ year old movie was using real, actual jetpacks in them though.

Invisibility Suits:

This is also super fucked up.  I don’t want to live in a world where Harry Potter type shit is a real thing.  Hard pass.   Actually I take that back it’d be an awesome tool for the military I guess

Time Travel:

This isn’t true *yet* but the theory is exceptionally easy for anyone to understand.  If you’re at work and can’t watch the video, here’s a TL/DR:

Imagine you’re on a train barreling down the tracks at 50MPH.  You are sitting in your seat and also moving at 50MPH.  If you got up and started moving to the front of the train, you are moving faster than the train.

Now, light is the fastest moving “thing” in our universe.  If we could develop a train that moved at the speed of light and a person inside it were to get out of his seat and move towards the front of it, he’d technically be traveling faster than the speed of light.  Since this is impossible, time would slow down to balance out the laws of physics.  Depending on how long he walked towards the front of the train for, he’d land in the future at a correlating rate.  Insane to think about

I TOLD YA HE WAS REAL!!!

And there are a LOT more.  Laser guns, brain reading technology, human cloning, interstellar travel, and on and on.   Read the whole thread to kill off a solid hour of your cube time on this lovely Friday morning.
