Jeff Bezos' Wife Just Donated $17 BILLION Of Her Divorce Settlement To Charity

Source - MacKenzie Bezos, worth more than $36 billion after divorcing Amazon (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos, announced on Tuesday that she will give at least half of her fortune to charity.

Bezos’s promise came by signing the Giving Pledge, an initiative founded in 2010 by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett that encourages the world’s wealthiest people to donate more than half of their wealth to charitable causes.

“There are lots of resources each of us can pull from our safes to share with others,” the fiction author stated in a letter published on the Giving Pledge website.

“In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share,” MacKenzie Bezos added. “My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”

You know what the weirdest part about this divorce is? That I don’t feel bad for MacKenzie for getting cheated on. I feel like anyone can withstand infidelity for the right price. I’d probably lose both legs and both arms for $17 billion and I’d be the happiest stump in the world. Besides, the prosthetics you could get fitted with for that kind of money would be better than your original limbs anyway.

Regardless, giving away half of your $36 billion divorce settlement after you get publicly ‘allegedly’ cheated on is a genius move. For one, you don’t need that much money. Ever. Could I spend thirty billion? Absolutely. I’d buy a bunch of sports teams, a few F1 racing teams, and all of 220 Central Park South and it’d be gone. But that’d be foolish because by giving it away to charity you instantly go from being the victim to being the hero. It’s genius PR. Besides, she’d never spend that much money and if she did, we’d never even know it. Tech billionaires aren’t rap stars. It’ll probably all go to her own charity any way.

Bezos previously funded cancer research, and founded the anti-bullying organization Bystander Revolution. She is one of 19 signatories of the Giving Pledge announced on Tuesday.

“The generosity of this group is a reflection of the inspiration we take from the many millions of people who work quietly and effectively to create a better world for others, often at great personal sacrifice,” Warren Buffett said in a statement.

I feel like now that she’s done all this she can finally relax and start acting like a billionaire. She’s got all her ducks in a row now it’s time to have some fun. Buy a yacht and go on vacation for the next fifty years until it’s time to cryogenically freeze your body or do whatever it is that billionaires do when they die. Good on you, MacKenzie.
