Sabermetric Stat Of The Year: Michigan Reportedly Hires Juwan Howard, Making Him The 11th Current College Hoops Coach To Be In NBA Jam

First things first. I need Juwan Howard to enter his press conference like this:

It’s not necessarily a surprise that Howard was hired by Michigan. This is especially true yesterday when Providence announced Ed Cooley would be signing an extension there. The moment that happened it was down to Howard and assistant Luke Yaklich.

More importantly we have this important stat in our lives:

So what to think of Howard? The dude has been around great basketball minds at Miami. There’s no doubt about that. We’ve seen this path with a guy like Patrick Ewing. I’d say Ewing is on the track to be successful at Georgetown. He was a guy with only assistant coaching experience in the NBA before taking his alma mater’s job. He’s recruiting at a ridiculously high level and Georgetown started winning some games last year.

That’s the path that Howard should follow. It starts with being able to build a solid bench of assistant coaches. He’s likely losing Luke Yaklich to Texas. That means he’ll have to replace most guys. Luckily, I know just the guys he should hire:

Michigan is going to take a massive step back in year one. That’s not necessarily breaking news. They lose guys like Poole, Matthews and Iggy while still having Simpson and Teske. But, to replace all that along with a top-10 coach in the country isn’t exactly the easiest thing in a few months. So if year 1 doesn’t live up to the hype, stay relaxed Michigan fans.
