'The Fat Sex Therapist' Tells Students Dieting is Like Child Rape and Nazism

Source“I truly believe that a child cannot consent to being on a diet the same way a child cannot consent to having sex,” Sonalee Rashatwar, whose Instagram username is “The Fat Sex Therapist,” proclaimed Thursday from the main stage of St. Olaf College.

She continued, “I experience diet culture as a form of assault because it impacts the way that I experience my body.”

These comments and more were made in the context of her two-hour speech, sponsored by St. Olaf College’s Wellness Center, Women’s and Gender Studies Department, and Center for Equity and Inclusion, on the topic of “radical fat liberation.” The talk included assertions that fitness contributed to the recent Christchurch shooting, that people should “challenge” the rule of law, as well as the authority of and the police.

“Tonight we’re gonna start by talking about how to politicize our definition of body image,” Rashatwar began, “because oftentimes we actually get stuck thinking of it from a white supremacist lense. …

“We should be critical of the use of science and the production of knowledge to continue promoting this idea that certain bodies are fit, able, and desirable…is it my fatness that causes my high blood pressure, or is it my experience of weight stigma?” Rashatwar asked. She then connected the science suggesting that obesity is unhealthy to Nazism, saying that “fatphobic” science is “often actually eugenic science….eugenic science is Nazi science.”

However, she then pivoted to support scientific findings as she pondered “intentionally pursuing weight loss,” claiming that “what we’re discovering scientifically is that that’s not possible.”

You go, girl! Sonalee Rashatwar, you are singing my song. And I’d be dancing to it, if that didn’t mean putting down my meatball sub and getting out of my chair. Fuck all these Nazis promoting these eugenic science ideas that being fit and healthy is somehow good for you. Burn in hell, you Seig-Heiling bastards with your white supremacist lens of attractiveness. Politicize our definition of body image on somebody else’s time. My new Spirit Animal Sonalee and I have calories to take in.

I don’t know when I’ve ever felt so liberated than when she said diets are a form of oppression and weight loss is scientifically impossible. Granted, she’s kind of threading a needle here saying on the one hand that science is bullshit when it talks about health but then citing the research that says you can’t actually ever lose weight. But I’m willing to overlook it in the name of giving up all responsibility for my physical condition. Because there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. She said so.

Those five extra pounds I’ve been carrying since Christmas? Don’t look at me. That’s science’s fault. My general lack of conditioning? Blame Hitler. My sedentary lifestyle? Quit shaming me, Grand Wizard. And my cholesterol count? That’s the stress of all the fatphobia I have to deal with, not all the sausages, pizza and beer I live off of.

And if you argue with it, you might as well have pulled the trigger in the Christchurch massacre yourself. It’s science.

P.S. If I had a kid enrolled at St. Olaf’s, I’d pull them out of there five minutes ago and never send them another nickel.
