The Legend Of Matt Harvey Grows

NYDNHarvey said his bloody nose, which he suffered frequently as a child, began in the pregame and started up again in the first inning, but he didn’t let it distract him. “I knew something was running, obviously, when I wiped my sleeve and saw it was red it was a telling sign, something else was coming out except for snot,” Harvey said with a laugh. “(The trainers) shoved up as much stuff up there as they could. “I got them all the time when I was growing up and unfortunately they are coming back,” Harvey said. “I will have to see what I can do about them.”

There was a lot going on last night between the Isles barn burner and the Knicks blowout so Matt Harvey didn’t get his respect. 9 innings pitched. 1 hit. No walks. 12 strikeouts. 1 bloody nose. He’s the 1st pitcher in 100 years to have 125 Ks and less than 25 earned runs over his first 17 starts. He’s seven feet tall and consumes batters with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse!

He was a bang bang play away from a perfecto. I’ll be perfectly honest if I had missed a Mets perfect game being at the Isles game last night I probably would have blown my brains out. But here’s why I’m not upset – there will be plenty more opportunities to watch Matt Harvey do these things over the next decade. He will throw no hitters. He will throw perfect games. He will win Cy Youngs. He’s a machine. Tossing absolute filth with dip in his lip, blood pouring from his nose, and steam coming out of his ears. So, I ask all the haters and all the doubters who laughed at me when I said Matt Harvey is a top 5 pitcher in baseball…do you believe now?

PS – Whitesoxdave tweeted me this yesterday at 3pm about last night’s game:

Guy knows the deal.
