So these are a couple of things that happened the last couple of days. Duke added to its absolutely loaded recruiting class with Cassius Stanley from California and UNC signed a top-2 prospect in Cole Anthony. Great recruiting classes, no doubt about it.

You know who else had good recruiting classes? John Calipari and Kentucky. You know what happens when he doesn’t make the Final Four:

Things like this pop up. Calling him a failure. Stinkbomb. Asking if he should be more successful. That just begs one question.

If UNC and/or Duke don’t make the Final Four this year, should K and Roy be considered failures? I say yes. I mean if you can’t win with NBA talent, you’re a failure. That’s the standard we’ve set with Kentucky and Calipari. Which is weird because K and Duke have done this strategy for a few years now and well, the success is similar to Cal.

I can’t help what fellow bloggers and writers and journalists say. But, I’ll lead the charge. Time to hold these guys to the same standard we hold Kentucky. Actually, it’s not even that. Because Kentucky is its own standard – the gold standard of college basketball. But, I’ll be the first to defend John Calipari and his style of coaching.

I’m not even saying it’s wrong. You should always go out and get the best talent you can. I don’t blame K for being like Calipari and trying to copy his style of recruiting. Don’t blame him one bit. I don’t blame Roy for recruiting more one and dones now that they don’t have the academic scandal over their head. That’s just smart.

But I will blame them for not making the Final Four in a fluky, win and advance, 1 game tournament. I mean that’s what we do. We blame the coach when a team has its worst free throw shooting game of the season. Clearly that’s coaching. It just makes sense to judge every single thing on this fluky event.
