Yankees OF Mike Tauchman Picked Off Jimmy Garoppolo In High School Football And Then Led The Game-Winning Drive as Quarterback

Kansas City Royals v New York Yankees

With the unbelievable decimation of the Yankees roster so far this year, we’ve been introduced to some new faces, one guy being Colorado Rockies outfielder Mike Tauchman. The Tauch Man is regularly out there patrolling left field these days and is actually producing now, despite an awful start. Well, something wild about Mike Tauchman is that he played quarterback at William Fremd High School. Now obviously that isn’t shocking because he’s a pro athlete and a lot of these guys are probably multi-sport athletes. The crazy part is that Tauchman faced off against NFL quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo during his senior year and beat him single handily.

In that game not only did Tauchman play quarterback and lead the game wining drive, but he set up that game-winning drive by picking off Garoppolo. WHAT!

Tauchman’s interception of a Garoppolo pass on his own 8 set the stage for the winning drive.

On third-and-9 from the 9, Tauchman hit Corso (8 receptions, 135 yards) for 14 and a first down. On third-and-9 from the 36, Tauchman scrambled 10 yards. On third-and-9 from the 43, Tauchman and Corso hooked up again for 28 yards.

The final big conversion was a 26-yard scoring pass to Corso on third-and-18 with 5:55 left in the game. Evan Wright ran it in for the 2-point conversion. -Daily Herald 9.20.2008

Well that’s insane. Here we are thinking Tauchman was just this random boring guy. No offense to Mike, but they asked him what’s something fans don’t know about him and he responded “I just like baseball.” How do you not drop the Jimmy G story there? Dude is a living legend.

In 14 games Mikey T has a .978 OPS with 3 homers and 8 RBIs. This is after a brutal 2-16 start, which is a similar path to what Voit started out as last season. Tauchman might actually be something after all. John Sterling also dubbed him “The Sock Man” during his home run call and I’m all about it. The Sock Man fucks.
