Damian Lillard Stepping Up To Steven Adams Was One Of The Most Impressive Things I've Ever Seen

There are few people in the NBA that you just do not want to fuck with. I think one guy that would be on everybody’s list would be Steven Adams, mostly because he’s the strongest and one of the most terrifying humans the league has. So last night when we saw him set this completely legal screen on Damian Lillard

I was pretty sure that was it for the Portland guard. You run into a brick wall like that and I don’t know many people that survive. What’s crazy is Steven Adams didn’t even flinch, almost like he didn’t feel a goddamn thing. That alone broke my brain but it was what happened next that gave me a whole new level of respect for Lillard. On the basketball court, he’s already one of the best guards in the league, someone that is the very definition of a franchise player. But what I didn’t know is he’s also a little crazy because who in their right mind goes after Steven Adams like that? Especially a guard? I know Dame is from Oakland and doesn’t take any shit, but I feel like everyone makes an exception when it comes to Adams because again, he’s a monster. It takes some big time testicles to go face to face with a player like Adams who if he wanted to could probably squash Lillard like a bug. This is a man that has like 20 brothers and does nothing but smash steaks in Oklahoma.

You’d have to be crazy to get in this man’s face.

When asked about it after the game Adams gave this response

which I love for a thousand reasons. I could listen to Steven Adams talk about literally anything and to be fair he does have a point. Nothing he did was illegal, there was no callout from a Blazer teammate and that sort of collision is what happens. Not his problem.

But even if he’s right, I still can’t get over that Dame had the balls to step to Steven Adams like that. Coming on a night where he dropped 29 points and hit ridiculous threes, this was probably the most impressive thing I saw Lillard do all night. He stepped up to Steven Adams and lived to talk about it. We usually see Adams beef with big men which makes sense because they are also giants, so the fact that Dame is nowhere close to the same size and he never backed down is impressive as hell. Now obviously this is the NBA and expecting there to be a fight would be silly, so maybe that’s why Lillard felt comfortable responding how he did, but I won’t hold that against him. It’s still brave as shit and something I bet a majority of players don’t even consider doing.

So maybe it’s just me, but after watching that there’s no way I can’t bump Lillard up a little bit in my personal rankings. Honestly Blazers fans probably know this already, but for the rest of the basketball world that always seems to sleep on Dame as a player, I have a feeling this is going to be a big postseason for him and a lot of minds will be changed. I also loved what he said postgame too

This is a man that gives no fucks, isn’t going to buy into the media drama or bait, and just wants to hoop. I think anyone who is a fan of this sport can get behind that.
