The NHL Needs To Make A New Rule Which Would Allow Rod Brind'Amour To Fight

Washington Capitals v Carolina Hurricanes

So by now, everybody has seen the fight where Alex Ovechkin pretty much ended the life of 19-year-old Andrei Svechnikov. It was pretty clear that the kid wanted the fight and also pretty clear that he’s out of his goddamn mind for picking a fight with a dude who has at least 40 lbs on him. So nothing against Ovi for giving the kid the fight that he was asking for. Even if Rod the Bod would disagree.

Again, I really don’t think that the fight was Ovi’s idea. I think this was a young kid who has never been in a fight before and didn’t realize what he was getting himself into. With that being said…well somebody is going to need to avenge young Andrei Svechnikov out there. Granted, the Hurricanes responded by throwing 4 more pucks in the back of the net to take the 5-0 win. But that’s just one game. And if the Carolina Hurricanes want to win this series, well then they need somebody to go out there and alpha Ovechkin right back. The only issue with that, though, is that if you look at Carolina’s roster? Well they don’t have anybody like that on the squad.

Keep in mind that this is a team that basically does arts & crafts out on the ice after home wins. They don’t have any legitimate alphas on the team. They don’t have anybody on the ice who can stand up to Ovechkin physically. What they do have, however, is one of the baddest mother fuckers on the planet just standing there behind the bench.

You think Rod the Bod is afraid to chuck some knucks with Ovi? Heck no. Rod the Bod makes Ivan Drago look like a little twink. Rod the Bod makes Soviet workouts look like a pilates class. But unfortunately, Rod Brind’Amour isn’t allowed to fight Alex Ovechkin under the current NHL rules. So unfortunately, the Carolina Hurricanes are stuck with this nerdy ass roster who can’t do anything about Ovechkin sending their teenage superstar into next week with his right fist.

Which is why I think the NHL really needs to start looking into allowing some coaches out there to mix it up. Maybe not during the regular season because we don’t need psychopaths like Torts trying to scrap 82 games per year. But during the playoffs? When the boys need a spark and the coach can be the one to provide one? Sure thing. I think you let Rod Brind’Amour hop out onto the ice and take some matters into his own hands. Only if he rips off his shirt before letting some bombs fly, though. That needs to be written in the fine print.

If Gary Bettman ever wants the NHL to takeover, it starts and ends with Rod the Bod going tarps off at center ice and throwing bombs. That’s just a fact.
