Sickening: Soccer Player Purposely Misses Penalty Kick After Receiving A Bad Call

Sportsmanship–is it ruining sports as we know them? Sure as heck seems so.

For as long as sports have been around, so have horrible calls by the officiating crews. Bad calls and missed calls by the refs are just as much a part of sports as a field and a ball are. Sometimes you’re on the receiving end of a shitty call. Sometimes you’re on the beneficiary side. Regardless, bad calls have been a part of sports for as long as sports have been around. Just look at the NFC Championship game.

Which is why you should never, under any circumstances, try to make up for the horrible calls yourself. If you’re put in this position, you shoot the shit out of that penalty kick. If it goes in, it goes in. If you ring it off the post? You ring it off the post. Ball Don’t Lie. That’s a saying for a reason, and that reason is because it’s true. The Sports Gods intend for the result of every game to be the result that the Sports Gods want. If they wanted that ball to go in, then who are to try to play Sports God? And for what? Just to prove to everybody how much sportsmanship you have? Just step up, shoot your shot, and let the Sports Gods decide the fate of that ball. If that’s not your style? Get lost.

I think the majority of the blame here can be placed on this truly horrific commercial.

That video isn’t what sportsmanship looks like. That video right there is what it looks like to not have a desire to be great. That’s what it looks like to not have a drive to win. That’s what it looks like when you lack any shred of a competitive bone in your body. You want to display some sportsmanship? Do it after you already won the game like Coach K does.
