Steve Spurrier Blames Dan Snyder For His Failures With The Redskins

Screen Shot 2019-03-26 at 11.25.21 AM

I’m here for any and all Dan Snyder slander, especially when it comes from a guy like Steve Spurrier. The HBC is a straight shooter, and he’s never really gone all-in on Dan Snyder, even though it seems he wants to. So in a Washington Post article full of great tidbits from Spurrier, this is what stood out to me the most, about his time in Washington:

Wa Po - He would stay for only two unpleasant years, recording a 12-20 overall record.

Spurrier blames himself … kind of.

“I did a lousy job,” he says. “The GM did a lousy job. He happened to be the owner, so who needed to go?”

More specifically, Spurrier was upset that Snyder “picked the quarterback.” That was Patrick Ramsey. Whether Spurrier would have done better with full control is unknown, and he left the Redskins job with three years left on his contract.

“The GM did a lousy job. He happened to be the owner, so who needed to go?”. AMEN, BROTHER. Who needed to go, the coach who was brought in and paid a ton to right the ship, or the owner who appointed himself the GM despite having zero football knowledge? God, even thinking about it all these years later drives me up the wall because, as we know, absolutely nothing has changed.

The best (worst) part is the part we already knew, but still gets under my skin, the fact Snyder didn’t let Spurrier pick his own quarterback. The HBC was this offensive genius, brought in to revolutionize the Skins and the NFL, but Dan Snyder made him use Patrick Ramsey. Infuriating.

One day 30 for 30 or one of those things will do a deep dive into Dan Snyder’s horrific ownership regime with the Skins. How he bought the team and then ran them into the ground one step at a time. God do I hate him.
