Sunday Night Football Week 1: Patriots vs America's Team?

So news broke this afternoon that Roger Goodell is apparently avoiding a trip to Foxboro by changing tradition and having the opening game somewhere other than at the Super Bowl champion’s stadium…

Even Patriot haters have to admit this looks very suspicious. Who can blame him though? The man didn’t want to walk into another 70,000 person circus where he’s the main clown show.

Kansas City Chiefs v New England Patriots

Anyways, I don’t really care about that. I’d watch any two teams play on Opening Night. Doesn’t matter to me. But what did catch my eye is the fact that the Patriots are now hosting the first Sunday Night Football game of the season instead. And to me, Sunday Night Football is the main attraction. Carrie Underwood kicks it off with her nice long legs intro and then it allows me to fall asleep peacefully, doing what I love, instead of worrying about the horrors that the next morning will bring when my alarm goes off. Well, I fall asleep during it unless the match-up is so good that I have to stay up. Which brings me to my point. Who will the Patriots host in this premier, banner raising, opening game?

Well, I guess the first place to start would be to see who their confirmed 2019 opponents are.

Interesting. Obviously the 8 road games are off the table, and you can throw out the newly boring Steelers, too. The Bills, Dolphins, and Jets suck. So I guess it’s down to just four teams: the Giants, Cowboys, Browns, or Chiefs. So who could this mystery team possibly be????

Opening Sunday Night of the year, with all eyes in the country glued on the screen? I think they have to go with America’s Team! That’s right, buddy boy. All signs point to the most electric team in the NFL. The new kids on the block. Your Cleveland Browns!

The league’s biggest stars will be out in Foxboro that night, and they’re be wearing orange and brown. And I’m not saying this will be a passing of the torch moment or anything too special…..yet. But I can tell you that the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots will NOT be the most talented team on the field that night. And I bet you the NFL plays the commercial where Tom Brady asks Baker to hold his rings….
