Hot Seat: Mike Babcock?

It’s starting…

The Leafs have the 5th best record in the league and the 3rd best record in the East, and yet they’re staring at another potential first round exit with Boston standing in their way. That probably isn’t good enough. That would be the 3rd straight first round loss for the Leafs, and it would be Babcock’s 10th straight year without making it to the Conference Final. That might be good enough for some teams, and some coaches. But when you’re Toronto and you’re known as the biggest asshole in the game to play for…it’s not. Enter the theory I’ve been pushing since November…

I said it yesterday in a different blog, but now this storyline is picking up steam. The Leafs aren’t good enough and maybe it’s the fault of the highest paid coach in the game. The Leafs have already paid the bulk of Babcock’s deal, and the actual best coach in the league is sitting out there and could potentially be had for cheap for the next year as the Blackhawks are still on the hook for his contract.

You want to know why Joel didn’t take the Philly job or any other job? It’s because he’s been waiting out Babcock. He’s enjoying Bears tailgates, his ski house in Colorado, and an extended vacation in Australia all while waiting for the chance to coach Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares. Waiting for a chance to go back where it all started
