The College Hoops Conference Tournament Roundup: Day 2

We’re at the best time of the year. The part where everyone gets involved and cares about college hoops. So with that in mind I understand that there are a million different games going on and you can’t keep up with them all. So we’ll update you every morning with what happened the night before through the NCAA Tournament. Forget all other sites, we got you here.

WCC (Championship)
Thoughts: St. Mary’s just pissed off every possible bubble team in the country. 14.5 point dogs and they win outright. It was impressive. They absolutely controlled tempo of the game. I mean sure, there MAY be some bid collusion here, but knowing Gonzaga they want to win that game. Mostly because now everyone is saying that Gonzaga shouldn’t be a No. 1 seed. Yes, they don’t have as many quadrant 1 wins as others. But, they have enough. They are No. 1 in NET and No. 2 in KenPom. That won’t change much after tonight. A bad shooting night (Norvell shot like dogshit) shouldn’t bump them down. Remember, teams still have to play this week and they all can’t win.

CAA (Championship)
Thoughts:
Good for Northeastern. After blowing a 17-point second half lead a year ago to Charleston, the Huskies get back to the NCAA Tournament. Northeastern just absolutely killed Hofstra’s zone. Part of it was Vasa Pusica hitting six threes but really Bill Coen just put in an awesome gameplan. It’s not surprising. Coen is a hell of a coach and now they bring in this offense to the NCAA Tournament. It sucks that we don’t get Justin Wright-Foreman (the 2nd leading scorer in the country), but it feels right for some redemption for Northeastern.

Horizon League (Championship)
Thoughts:
Shout out NKU. After surviving that Oakland game lastn ight they got their rival. Let me say this. Drew McDonald is going to win people over if you didn’t watch him tonight. He’s a big white dude that can shoot the ball – he’s NKU’s all-time leading scorer and the MVP of the Horizon. You’ll be shocked but people were calling him Pittsnoggle. So you have that to look forward to. Throw in guys like Tate and Sharpe and this team is going to be a somewhat popular ‘they might be able to actually pull this upset off’ team.

NEC (Championship)
Thoughts:
Listen credit to FDU here. They were able to build up the lead and keep St. Francis at a distance for the most part. However, St. Francis is a 72% free throw shooting team. They were 23% tonight. At home. How does that happen? That said, FDU will be a team that comes into the NCAA Tournament looking to beat you offensively. They aren’t going to slow the game down. They’ll look to try and score 80.
No. 2 FDU 85, No. 1 St. Francis (PA) 76

Summit League (Finals)
Thoughts:
I was dead wrong about this game. I assumed Omaha’s offense, which coming into the game was the most consistent thing of the game, would hold true. NDSU shot the shit out of the ball and never let Omaha really come back.

ACC Tournament (1st Round)

Screen Shot 2019-03-12 at 10.37.10 PMThoughts: Well it wasn’t exactly the most exciting day. I mean Georgia Tech made a run to make Notre Dame sweat. But, really the question so far from day 1 is will there be two openings in the ACC. Will Wake move on from Danny Manning and will Boston College move on from Jim Christian? This really picks up today with the 8/9 game. That essentially feels like loser will end up on wrong side of the bubble.
