Kevin Smith Speaking About Stan Lee's Cameo In 'Captain Marvel' Is Emotional Stuff

***VERY SLIGHT ‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’ SPOILERS AHEAD***

As soon as Stan Lee graced the screen for his cameo in ‘Captain Marvel’ – after the beautiful tribute he was given in the film’s opening sequence – I immediately teared up, and got unexplainably excited to see/hear what Kevin Smith thought of it.

This is because, of course – again, brief spoilers ahead – as Carol Danvers herself is scanning through passengers on a Los Angeles Metro-Rail train, seeking a runaway Skrull, she encounters Stan Lee going over the script to ‘Mallrats’, and reciting iconic his line, “Trust me, true believer!”. This marks the first time Stan has ever actually played himself in any of these movies, which I thought was awesome.

Brie Larson then has this incredible performance, where she pauses, and smiles at Stan – treading the line of almost breaking the fourth wall – but honestly just plays the audience, and reacts exactly how all of us did in the theater. It’s one of my favorite parts of the whole flick.

Kevin Smith finally broke his silence on the cameo today, and it’s…predictably emotional.

Kev reveals that the Godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige, called him months back, after Stan had passed, to request Stan’s outtakes from his scene with Brodie Bruce to plug into the movie, as Stan’s voice wasn’t all there when he recorded the ‘Captain Marvel’ role, and can’t even mention the fact that his work was referenced in the flick without tearing up.

Just an awesome video all around, and an amazing honor for my favorite dude on the planet.

RIP Stan! Excelsior!
