The Most Dominant Regular Season Streak In Sports Has Officially Ended

There was no more dominant streak in sports right now than Kansas winning at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title for the last 14 years. Think about that statement for a second. Here’s what was going on the last time Kansas didn’t win the league:

– The Office wasn’t a thing in the United State

– George W. Bush was President. In his first term.

– Kobe Bryant was wearing No. 8.

– The Pistons were good at basketball. Like, really good.

– Mark Zuckerberg had just created Facebook

– Podcast became a ‘new English word’

Simply put that was a long ass time ago. The Big 12 Streak has ended for a couple of reasons. First, Kansas simply isn’t that good this year. Second, Texas Tech and Kansas State both are pretty good. And it ended in the proper way.

Kansas losing on the road. They are one of the worst road teams this year going 3-8 in true road games. Those 3 wins came against a Baylor team that wasn’t 100%, TCU in overtime and Oklahoma State by 5. It really just goes back to having inconsistent wing and guard play. Dedric Lawson is an All-American but there’s only so much you can do playing through him without consistent help.

So Kansas will enter the Big 12 Tournament as the likely No. 3 seed. Texas Tech and Kansas State meanwhile are going for an outright title. Kansas State hosts Oklahoma and Texas Tech goes to Iowa State.

I wonder what the default storyline will be next year now.
