Walgreens Stepping Up To Help Cancer Patients Is Pretty Fucking Awesome

Yesterday, Walgreens officially thrown their hats in the ring to help cancer survivors and it’s the best thing you’ll read today.

The “Feel More Like You” campaign rolled out in 3,000 stores across the country that will combine their health resources with their beauty department to give cancer patients to get a chance to work on their physical, emotional and mental health all at the same time. And even cooler? It will cost absolutely nothing and you don’t need an appointment.

VP of Pharmacy Operations Rina Shah says their mission is simple (via Business Wire)…

“Cancer treatment impacts many aspects of patients’ lives, from side effects such as nausea and fatigue to distinct changes in physical appearance, often impacting their self-esteem and confidence. Through support from Walgreens expert pharmacists and our specially-trained beauty consultants, the Feel More Like You service has the power to positively affect millions of Americans whose lives are impacted by cancer every day.”

A pill isn’t the entire patient story. You don’t feel good if you don’t look good. And that is not about vanity. It’s about a mother telling her kids she is still her, by looking and feeling like herself while undergoing treatment. It’s about a woman being comfortable in her own skin despite changes or discoloration associated with chemo therapy. It could be as simple as helping her avoid products that irritate her skin as it goes through changes associated with cancer medications and treatments.”

This is really, really cool.

In a world where everything seems to be full of so many shitty people, it’s good to see major companies like Walgreens showing the good side of humanity. People really suck. But no sir, not Walgreens. They’re helping fighters feel more like themselves again. Even if it’s feeling beautiful after getting your makeup or nails done when you pick up your prescription. Even if it’s just talking to somebody who can help you manage side effects both mentally and physically. Every little thing helps. And now 3000 stores are an accessible resource of personalized care for those who really need it.

Good for you, Walgreens. Click here to find a “Feel More Like You” location.

These are the kind of stories that really hit home. I’ve spoken about my own fight with cancer many times in the past and no matter how many people tell me to stop, I never will. I know I’m one of the lucky ones. I will always fight for those who can’t. I’ll never stop spreading awareness. To quote my good friend Rico Bosco “some things are just bigger than sports.”

So, to everybody who is fighting this awful disease: Keep fighting. You are not alone. Fuck cancer.
