The Mets Are Hiring Jessica Mendoza For A Player Evaluation Role In The Front Office. Wait, What?!?

Just when you think you have all the answers for the Mets, they change the questions. Hand up, I did not see this tweet popping up on my timeline when I woke up this morning. Yet here we are. Based on the replies to this tweet, it appears there are a ton of Mets fans who dislike Jessica Mendoza on Baseball Tonight and didn’t want her anywhere near their team’s front office. And that’s fine. It sucks for them that this wasn’t a Jason Witten situation and at least ended up with people that watch ESPN didn’t end up happy. But in the end, who cares? You can have Jessica Mendoza, Vin Scully, Joe Buck and 100 Theo Epsteins in the Mets front office and it’s going to be the same result as long as the Wilpons own the team. Optimism in December, excitement when they win yet another Opening Day, and a slow march to darkness by the end of September followed by the fans demanding change only to flip the minute the Mets make 3 half measure signings on the cheap instead of going for it. Wash, rinse, repeat. We already have the former agent of some of our best players as GM. So what’s the big deal adding an announcer that does Sunday Night Baseball to the payroll, considering the Yankees hired Medonza’s announcing partner ARod last year? Former baseball player, former softball player, former kickball player, who gives a shit? As long as the guys that reportedly pocketed David Wright’s insurance money are at the top of the org chart, none of this matters.

Now lets get to Opening Day so I can convince myself of a run to October after seeing the Mets atop the NL East standings at 1-0.
