PETA's Twitter Auto-Replies to Any Tweet with #Donate in It. Things Go About as You'd Expect

One of the greatest truisms ever, one I try to live my life by, is that no good deed goes unpunished.

That’s doubly true when you’re a famously self-righteous and judgmental organization so full of yourself with your misplaced self-righteous indignation that you once sent this request to The Pet Shop Boys:

“Dear Neil and Chris. You have many loyal fans of the Pet Shop Boys here at Peta. We have a request that may at first seem bizarre, but we hope that after considering the following facts, you will understand why we are asking this of you: will you please consider changing your name from the Pet Shop Boys to the Rescue Shelter Boys.”

So yeah, as much as I can get behind legitimate causes like unnecessary cruelty to animals or controlling pet populations, PETA makes it really hard to take them seriously. And obviously I’m not alone. Because as soon as word got out that they were sending auto-replies to anyone who Tweeted them with #Donate, the fun began.

I like animals. But God help me, at moments like this I love the internet. What the hell. #Donate to them, if for no other reason then they made us laugh.
