Breaking: Gustav Nyquist Has Been Traded To The San Jose Sharks

Love me a nice late night trade. Gustav Nyquist is headed to San Jose in exchange for a 2019 2nd round pick and a 2020 3rd round pick. I love the move for the Sharks. Nyquist will slot right in on the Sharks 3rd line and give them so much needed scoring depth for a playoff run.

Through 61 games this season, Nyquist has 15 goals and 33 assists. Which puts him 7th on the Sharks roster with 48 points, between Evander Kane and Erik Karlsson.

Kind of thought Nyquist would fetch more of a return. But I guess that is what the market is set at. Mats Zuccarello was traded for the exact same return when he was traded to Dallas yesterday. Let’s not forget what the Red Wings got in return for Tomas Tatar last season from the Knight. The Wings got a first-round pick in 2018, a second-round pick in 2019, and a third-round pick in 2021. For a player who they ended up scratching in the playoffs. So it really all depends on what the trade market is set at.

So if your team is in the market for a scorer, they aren’t currently costing an arm and a leg, the market has been set pretty low this year. Does that mean we will see more deals? Hopefully. The last few NHL trade deadlines have sucked.
