White Sox Sign Ervin Santana #SCOOPCITY

Felt good getting a good ol’ fashioned scoop in what was the worst week of my life.  Is this the scoop I was hoping for?  For sure not.  But I don’t segregate big scoops from small scoops.  A scoop is a scoop is a scoop is a scoop.

Now about the move:  It’s whatever.  Santana was really good in 2017 even though he’s ancient, but assuming his lingering finger issue is fixed, he should be a fine back end innings eater with Banuelos and Covey.  They were desperate for a 5th starter for this year and looks like Santana is it.

Now, at best Santana returns to his 2017 form where he put up pretty awesome numbers en route to a 7th place Cy Young finish:

That’s a really good fucking year.

If he does that again?  He gets dealt at the deadline for something young, something controlled and something talented.  No idea what a 36 year old pitcher will be worth on the open market, but pitching typically fetches a premium at the deadline, so who knows?  And at $4-5MM, why not take a shot?

Fine move.  Nothing wow about it and pretty expected.  Get me to 2020
