An American Couple Living In Australia Got Busted Trying To Smuggle $1.3 BILLION Worth Of Meth Into The US

Source - A joint drug bust between Australian and U.S. authorities in mid-January resulted in a record 1.7 tons of methamphetamine being seized at Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport.

Customs and Border Protection announced the seizure of the three containers on Thursday, which were intended to be shipped to Australia before being searched on Jan. 11. The containers were filled with speakers “artfully” stuffed with the drugs.

In addition to the 3,810 pounds of meth, the shipment also contained 55.9 pounds of cocaine and 11.5 pounds of heroin. Australian officials said the total street value of the haul was $1.29 billion.

The bust was the largest amount of methamphetamine ever seized in the United States, according to police.

Authorities said six people have been arrested in the scheme — two Americans and four Australians. The Americans were identified by Australian police as a 52-year-old man and 46-year-old woman living in Woodstock, Victoria.

$1.3 BILLION. ONE POINT THREE BILLION DOLLARS. That’s one-seventieth of Jeff Bezos’ wife’s divorce settlement in meth. I’m always curious as to how someone even gets to that level. Like how long does it take them from the time they sell their first bag until the time they’re moving thousands of pounds? It has to be decades, right? Unless the powers that be fast track your career, but I don’t think the cartel’s management works that way. It’s a cut-throat industry. Literally. Just the sheer amount of coordination it would take to move that amount of drugs blows my mind. 3,810 Lbs is more that a Toyota Camry. They literally bought hundreds of speakers, packed them full of meth, and got caught.

The craziest part is that Homeland Security says it dealt a “significant blow” to whatever organization was involved, but that may not be true.

“There’s no question that the criminal organization behind this scheme has been dealt a significant blow,” Joseph Macias, special agent-in-charge for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles, said in a statement. “… Through a collaborative effort — pooling our information, resources and expertise — we are keeping this dangerous contraband from reaching our streets and potentially saving lives.”

This could be a drop in the bucket for cartels and we’ll never know. Maybe they got busted on purpose to create a distraction for an even bigger load of meth? Whatever the case, getting in trouble was the best thing that could’ve happened to these people. Meth dealers don’t retire, they either die or get killed.
