Happy 10th Anniversary To Dwight's Fire Drill and Michael's Roast And One Of The Best Episodes Of Television Ever

February 1st, 2009. Do you remember where you were? I was a junior in college at the beautiful University of Maryland. At the time I was not an Office fan. I didn’t really watch much TV in college. Is that weird? Uhh sorry I was too busy drinking beers and banging chicks, how else do you think I got a job at Barstool? But I recall watching Dwight’s fire drill after the game and having absolutely no idea what I was seeing. Like, completely taken off guard by it. And that scene, one of the greatest scenes in television history, was my introduction to The Office. They did it perfectly. They had a massive audience that would be sticking around after the game, and they knocked it out of the park. Last night they had some James Corden game show after the Super Bowl and I could not have changed the channel quick enough. The post-Super Bowl episode put The Office on the map for a lot of people, and continues to be one of the most talked about of the entire series. And not just because of the opening scene. It also had:

Michael’s “Boom, roasted”.

And what I consider possibly the most underrated scene in the entire series, Michael tossing full pieces of bread to absolutely zero birds. I guess they all flew west for the Winter.

What an episode. Not to mention the Pam/Jim/Andy subplot ending with that really sweet scene from Pam and Andy thinking he didn’t understand the entire movie. What an episode indeed.

PS: I am currently on my billionth Office re-watch, but usually I stop after Michael leaves because I’ve never been able to stomach season 8. This time I decided to power through to the end. I’ll say this- the Will Ferrell episodes are much, much worse than most of Season 8. Once you get to the meat of the season, it’s not too bad. You just have to get past the beginning of the season and then it’s fairly enjoyable and funny. Season 9 also isn’t as bad as I remember it being. I’m on episode 18 of season 9 and I haven’t hated it at all. I think if you just watch 8 and 9 every couple of years it’s not as bad as you’ll recall.
