The Dude Who Has Edited Over 3 Million Articles On Wikipedia Is The Biggest Gangster On The Internet

CBS – Steven Pruitt has made nearly 3 million edits on Wikipedia and written 35,000 original articles. It’s earned him not only accolades but almost legendary status on the internet.

The online encyclopedia now boasts more than 5.7 million articles in English and millions more translated into other languages – all written by online volunteers. Pruitt was named one of the most influential people on the internet by Time magazine in part because one-third of all English language articles on Wikipedia have been edited by Steven. An incredible feat, ignited by a fascination with his own history.

The internet is an…interesting place. It has somehow become one of the greatest inventions of modern time as well as one of the worst. It’s filled with an endless supply of knowledge as well as an endless supply of people either telling each other to kill themselves, or buying pictures of women’s feet for $500. There are good people on the internet and there are also bad people on the internet.

But out of all of them? Well none are bigger gangsters than my guy Steven Pruitt here.

Here’s the thing–writing 35,000 original articles and editing 3 million others is absolutely preposterous on its own. I think the only person on the internet who could possibly write more words per day than Steven Pruitt would be Greenie talking about the Celtics. But while it’s a preposterous workload on its own, that’s not what makes Steven Pruitt a certified G. What really separates Steven Pruitt from the rest of the internet is that this man does it all for free. Doesn’t make a single dollar from any of this and he’s still living with his parents. I know that some people may see a large adult man living with his parents and decide to poke fun at him for that. But just know that if you decide to laugh at or make fun of Steven Pruitt, he could effectively end your entire life with just one quick Wikipedia entry and it wouldn’t be a single drop of sweat off of his back. He could destroy you in minutes. Seconds even.

And that’s why him not making any money from this is some real gang shit. Because realistically, anybody can put that type of work and dedication into something. But almost everybody would expect to receive some sort of compensation for their work. People are naturally greedy. They want money. They want notoriety. But not Steven Pruitt. He’s just out here editing Wikipedia all day every day for the love of the game. This isn’t a job to him. This is his life. So if you cross him, there’s not going to be any outside financial influences holding him back from absolutely obliterating you off the face of the internet with one quick Wikipedia entry. Essentially what I’m saying is that he has his freedom because he works for free. And the work he does for free?

Well it’s enough to make him one of Time Magazine’s Top 25 Most Influential People On The Internet. The entire goddamn internet. Think about how many people are on the internet on any given day. Millions upon millions upon millions of people. And this dude is one of the 25 most influential out of all of them. And he does all this for free.

Gang. Shit. I would ride or die for Steven Pruitt.
