CHOO CHOO! The Trent Frederic Era Has Begun

NHL: SEP 26 Preseason - Red Wings at BruinsThe Trent Frederic Era has begun!!! The B’s 2016 1st round pick (29th overall) has been recalled and will make his NHL debut tomorrow night vs. the Winnipeg Jets.

Let’s run through the transactions today:

  • Trent Frederic has been recalled from Providence. Peter Cehlarik is back with the big club as well.
  • Tuukka Rask has been placed on IR, retroactive to January 19th. Tuukka suffered a concussion against the Rangers in their last game before the break. He will not play tomorrow (obviously) but is eligible to be recalled since we’ve surpassed the one week minimum. He was not on the ice for practice today.
  • Zane McIntyre has been recalled from Providence on emergency basis. With Rask on IR, this move makes sense. We’ll see if he gets any action, but I doubt it. He’s 16-8-0 on the season in the A, but he’s been red hot according to Mark Divver.
  • What have you done for me lately? – Ryan Donato and Jakob Forsbacka Karlssson have been returned to Providence.

Let’s talk about Trent Frederic…

“Frederic is not going to be a top two-line guy, we know that.” – Keith Gretzky, former Bruins director of Amateur Scouting in June of 2016

The B’s quite literally admitted that Frederic was a third line guy when they drafted him in the 1st round in 2016, and here he is, getting his shot at centering the B’s third line (which has basically become a revolving door). Frederic, the 29th overall pick, was the Bruins’ 2nd pick of the 1st round (Thanks Lucic), after they selected Charlie McAvoy 14th overall. Frederic plays a heavy game, but he has decent hands. 10 goals and 7 assists in 37 games with the resurgent Providence Bruins. 4G, 6A in his last 12 GP. 2G and an apple on Friday night.

He’ll try and bring his heavy skilled game to the third line, and it starts tomorrow night against the Jets.

Here’s how the boys lined up for practice today per Fluto:
