When Shit Talk Goes Wrong: Cowboy Edition

Ohhh, Alexander Hernandez. A little respect for your elders would go a loooooong way.

As I wrote in my fight recap on Saturday night, up-and-comer Alexander Hernandez was talking a big game in the build to his fight with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and it just didn’t pan out the way he expected it to, to put it lightly. Extremely lightly.

Cowboy got into his groove virtually right away, found his reach, and started teeing off on the youngster who had pretty much nothing for him in return. Punches, kicks, knees, elbows, I mean, limbs were just flying every which way and somehow all whipping back and connecting with Hernandez’s face. The fatal blow, which was that devastating signature Cowboy head kick, was even predicted by his opponent’s corner, who called out a warning moments prior, and in the post-fight presser, Cowboy noted that. He told the media, “That corner told em, ‘He’s settin’ up that head kick!’…damn right I was settin’ up that head kick!”

You just love to see it.
