The Week 12 Spittin’ Chiclets College Hockey Rankings are here. One of the tougher rankings I have ever had to do. Basically, every team in the top-10 lost this weekend and all the teams I had in the chamber lost too. So not to be a dick, but the teams in the top-10 need to be better next week for the sake of the rankings.

The wagon that is UMass comes in at #1 for the 2nd straight week. The Minutemen had their way with UVM this past weekend, sweeping the Catamounts, winning on Friday night 4-1 and then 5-1 on Saturday. At 17-3-0 this season UMass is BUZZING and I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon. Carvel has his boys ready to go night in and night out and it shows. The series everyone in Massachusetts has been waiting for is upon us this upcoming weekend, A home-and-home between UMass and #7 Northeastern. Both great arenas, both loaded teams, if you are in the area you should definitely try to make your way out to the Mathews or the Mullins.

St. Cloud State comes in at #2 once again but they didn’t have themselves the weekend they wanted. The Huskies split their weekend series with #4 Minnesota Duluth. Losing on Friday night 3-1 and winning on Saturday 4-2. The tough opponents continue for SCSU this upcoming weekend when they will welcome #10 Western Michigan to St. Cloud. Going to be a battle for both teams, but I like the Huskies. They are too deep.

Ohio State falls from #4 to #5 after splitting their weekend series with Michigan. Like I said going into the season, I think Michigan is loaded and they have been playing some great hockey of late so you really can’t knock the Buckeyes too much for the loss on Friday night. The Buckeyes did bounce back with a 4-2 win on Saturday though. Steve Rohlik and his boys will head to Penn State this weekend for another tough series against the 13-7-2 Nittany Lions.

Western Michigan is the new team to the top-10 this week and with a record of 13-6-2, they deserve it. The Broncos have rattled of 10 straight wins, with wins of #4 Minnesota Duluth, Miami of Ohio, North Dakota. The real test comes in the upcoming weekends for WMU as they’ll head to #2 St. Cloud this upcoming weekend then they’ll welcome #3 Denver the following weekend. Want to know how good this Broncos team actually is? You’ll get a good test these next few weeks.

Save of the week:

Zach Driscoll of Bemidji State made this incredible save Friday night. What a beauty.

Goal of the week:

Nothing like a game winner in the final seconds against a conference opponent. Shout out to Blake Mclaughlin of Minnesota.
