Last Night a Women's Tennis Match In Australia Was Delayed Hours After Seagulls Pooped Everywhere On The Court And No One Was Around To Clean It Up

Last night in the Aussie Open there were quite a few matches that went on for 3-4 hours. There was also a bit of rain that caused some delays on outside courts which threw the schedule of play through a loop. Tennis matches have no time limit so there’s no telling when you’ll exactly get to play if you aren’t first on the schedule. The U.K.’s Johanna Konta and Spain’s Garbine Muguruza were the very last match on the schedule for Margaret Court Arena. The matches before them were taking so long that they planned on moving them to a court no one was playing on to speed up time. That was the plan until officials realized all the seagulls in Melbourne shit everywhere on the court they were heading to. Bird shit all over the place. They went to get some staff to clean it up, but no one was left because it was so late in the night. I wish I could see the look on the officials faces when they walked to the empty court and realized there was seagull poop everywhere.

So instead of getting their match underway at a reasonable time, the two women had to wait hours longer to get on the court. Their match literally just finished a few hours ago with Muguruza pulling off the W in the 3rd set (I bet on Konta). It ended a little after 3am over there and by the time Garbine was done with post match stuff and recovery, she likely didn’t get to bed until 6am. All because of bird poop.

I might be out of line here but maybe they should invest in a tarp for the courts when no one is playing on them?
