Wake Up With Earl Weaver On Manager's Corner

Earl Weaver does it for me plain and simple. I hope you haven’t seen this clip before. Maybe you have. Either way, it’s an all-time classic for me and that’s basically what we’re trying to do with our wake ups. Get your boners elsewhere. We’re distributing our prized possession favorite internet videos without regard for whether or not you’ve probably already seen it. Topical or not. Popular or not. The only test is whether it makes us laugh and this one is a home . run

The story behind the interview sheds light on a time that is no more. Apparently Weaver and the radio host would do a short interview before each game where Weaver would take fan questions. In this case, they decided to prank the station engineer and send this audio in before a game to fuck with him. It was just supposed to be a joke for him like 35 years ago. Turns out the station engineer burned it to an audio cassette and then started passing it around Baltimore. That’s how you had to go viral back then. People manually copying cassette tapes.

I have a personal fascination with Weaver because he was the first to really change the strategy behind baseball. The first guy to use batting splits and bullpen matchups and all that. He was a dog shit minor leaguer turned managerial genius. The complete outsider who began his career with 3 straight AL Pennants and a World Series. You’ve heard it before but I’ll say it again, heroes get remembered, legends never dies.
